Recycled or natural materials

Using environmentally-friendly solutions throughout the life of the vehicle

Until now rarely used in vehicle interiors, recycled or natural materials are increasingly present in new automobile models. Undoubtedly, certain regulatory constraints have resulted in considerable deliberations on this issue. Hence in Europe for example, a European Commission directive fixes the target of 95% of the weight of a vehicle recyclable by the year 2015. Faced with this imperative, some manufacturers have decided to get a step ahead.
Thus, for Renault, Faurecia applied eco-design rules to the seat padding used in the recent Laguna III.
This was developed by taking into consideration the removal of foams and material compatibility, facilitating their end-of-life crushing. Faurecia has thus contributed to making this vehicle one of the earliest to comply with the European directive.

Another important innovation concerns including recycled polypropylene in this vehicle's plastic parts. This recyclable material, which has the advantage of being flexible and lightweight, is used in the design of rear seat backs and in the electrical connection plate. In total, the potential for recycled polypropylene is 3.5 kilos per seat set.
