Cockpit Faurecia designed the instrument panel to provide maximum user comfort, while at the same time optimizing weight. The glass-fiber-reinforced polypropylene material used for the structure provides an instrument panel that is both lightweight and robust. Particular care has also gone into the storage facilities. These include a double-opening glove compartment comprising a highly innovative power-operated magnetic opening and closing system providing ease of access for the user and an exemplary finish. Optional leather finish on the instrument panel ensures a particularly exclusive effect in its touch and appearance, which is highlighted by the use of high-quality leather and seams as well as additional padding beneath the leather surface. The trim bars in ash grain and flywheel aluminum were created especially for BMW’s Sports Activity Coupe. This dynamic design is even continued across the door panels with their twin-section trim effect. This allows the glove compartment to merge elegantly and unobtrusively into the surrounding surfaces. Locking automatically with the doors, the glove compartment does not require a separate lock, the two-part lid opening upwards and downwards to provide convenient access to the fully-illuminated storage space inside. The center console, also developed by Faurecia, is an extra element of comfort in the vehicle interior. This includes a spacious storage area that opens and closes in the same way as the glove compartment by means of a “butterfly” lid. Further features on the center console are the two extra-large cup holders complete with lid that can even hold bottles firmly in position.
