Seat
Faurecia worked on the Volkswagen component platform for the new Tiguan, providing frames for backrests and seat cushions, as well as the standard adjustment mechanisms (lifters, recliners and tracks). In line with increasingly stringent requirements in terms of comfort and safety, the Tiguan uses the newly patented Varios recliner system developed by Faurecia – a world first for a five-door vehicle. This new concept is extremely robust and makes it possible to easily adjust the position of the backrest with a low-torque, instant-response wheel. Faurecia also develops and produces innovative and functional rear seat structures. The frame of the rear seats can be adjusted for both length and reclining position. With a one-third/two-thirds folding system, the rear seats form a perfectly flat floor surface. The center section includes an integrated seatbelt and can be folded away to carry long objects such as skis more easily. The rear seats are designed to move along Faurecia’s highly resistant tracks. These allow lengthwise adjustment of 160mm, ensuring effective distribution of space between the three rear passengers and the trunk, while the Faurecia recliners make it possible to tilt the backrest beyond 10 degrees. The robust frames mean the rear seat backrests need no longer be attached to the bodywork.

Exhaust
Faurecia also provides the cold end of the exhaust system for the Tiguan, including the muffler and the catalytic converters for gasoline models. The catalytic converters are used to convert pollutants into clean, inert gases. The main component in the catalytic system is a ceramic block, or “monolith”, which houses the chemical reaction used to transform polluting substances. This is done by passing gases through a ceramic substrate whose walls are coated with catalytic components such as alumina, rare minerals and precious metals. Faurecia has refined the "canning" process used to house the ceramic block, which is surrounded by an insulating mat. A stainless steel case is then added ensuring the catalytic converter fits neatly into the exhaust system.
