Seat

Faurecia also delivers complete seating systems for the new 1-Series Convertible with enhanced impact-resistance features. The reinforced headrests and seatbacks significantly reduce the risk of injury to those inside the vehicle in the event of impact from the rear. The invisible side airbags built into the back of the front seats inflate in the event of lateral collision up to head height and reduce the risk of injury to occupants’ pelvis, torso and head.
The extensive range of seats available on the 1-Series Convertible includes many manual and powered adjustment functions to set seat length and height, position the backrest and change the width of the contoured lateral supports.
The optional leather finishes all use Sun Reflective Technology to avoid overheating of surfaces exposed to the sun. The leather is not dyed; it is treated with reflective pigments used to bounce back infrared rays from the sun, which reduces temperature by up to 68°F (20°C) compared with standard leather finishes.

Cockpit

As with the other models in the 1-Series line, the Convertible boasts fresh new surface treatment on the instrument panel with a skin that reflects the leather look to convey a more luxurious feel. The instrument panel offers more innovation based on the invisible-airbag concept. What sets this airbag system apart is that it is not fixed to the vehicle’s support beam. The new design ensures the system is compatible with the relevant European and US standards.

Front End

The BMW Convertible mirrors its 1-Series siblings in boasting a front-end module equipped with the patented mEasy system, which accommodates position tolerance of the fenders when the front end is mounted on the vehicle. As a result, automakers are spared any tedious adjustments needed to obtain the best fit and finish between bumpers, headlights and fenders, significantly reducing assembly time and enhancing perceived quality.

The front-end module is based on a hybrid front-end carrier with three metal inserts (upper cross beam and two lateral inserts) developed and produced by Faurecia.

The hybrid front-end carrier meets the full range of requirements in terms of safety, weight reduction, integration of features, front-end compactness and reparability at a cost below that of conventional metal front-end modules.
