Seat

Faurecia designed and manufactures seating systems for both the sedan and station wagon versions of the new C5. The front seats can be adjusted either manually or electrically, ensuring a driving position tailored to any body type or driving style.

Based on the type of finishing, two categories of seating system are available to meet individual needs. The “Harmonie” category focuses on in-car comfort while the “Caractère” option caters more to those looking to feel the road, providing enhanced seat support.

Both come in contoured styles made possible by Faurecia’s In-Situ foam padding technology, enabling concave shaping not possible with conventional trim.

Among the many types of trim available, the “Mixte” version stands out through the combination of different materials including fabric and leather. This reflects a fresh new approach to attractive upholstery in touring models. The leather is chosen on the basis of strict selection criteria with no detail overlooked in the leatherworking process.

Powered seat adjustment provides unparalleled positioning and comfort for this vehicle category. Seatback height adjusters allow drivers to find the right position, ensuring perfect upper-body support. Some versions also incorporate a massage function built into the backrest of the driver’s seat, making lower-back pain a thing of the past….

There is also more room for passengers in the rear. The back of the front seats has been designed to provide as much leg-room as possible behind while ensuring those in the front still have plenty of space. The rear seats comprise three headrests with adjustable height positions and, based on the type of finish, a central armrest, which can be transformed to provide space for skis, additional storage and two sliding cup holders.

With an anti-submarining support cross-beam running across the rear seats, passengers in the back are now guaranteed outstanding lower-torso protection in the event of frontal impact while ensuring significant reduction in vehicle weight. The seats can be folded down in 2/3-1/3 format to provide flat floor space in the rear.

Front-end

Faurecia also designed and supplies the front bumpers, with engineering teams working hard to ensure the best possible fit and finish between bumpers and body, achieving an outstanding level of perceived quality. Moreover, the paint booth used to manufacture the C5 bumpers already complies with future regulations on volatile organic compounds (VOC) due to come into effect in 2009.

The front bumper system includes a range of features to enhance comfort, such as parking assistance and a subtle-yet-powerful headlight washer system. To further improve safety, Faurecia designed and incorporated a special impact energy dissipation system to comply with the latest regulations, including those relating to collisions with pedestrians.

Faurecia also designed and supplies the cooling fan system. The second-generation Citroën C5 uses the new Faurecia cooling system combined with an electric motor featuring a pulse-width modulator (PWM). PWM technology is designed to provide high power output while reducing energy consumption. Great care was taken in designing the fan blades to keep operating noise to a minimum, adding to the overall impression of perceived quality.

Acoustic

In line with the automaker’s specifications, Faurecia supplied high-end soundproofing for the firewall, flooring and carpet.
Faurecia also designed the front and rear floor carpets, available in two versions: conventional “Dilour” low pile, specially designed for easy care, and a “Tuft” deep-pile option on high-end models. Both are classed as “integrated” carpeting based on the look of the fibers and the high-quality soundproofing, ensuring outstanding perceived quality while significantly reducing weight.
