Paintwork on Citroën C5 bumpers

Citroën C5 Find out more about the Citroën C5

As part of its drive to modernize its front end manufacturing processes in France, Faurecia introduced a new and completly automated paintshop to its Bains sur Oust plant in Ile et Vilaine in 2004. This line has a production capacity of up to 2,200 bumpers per day. The Bains sur Oust plant produces bumper systems for the current C6, 407 and C5 models, which it delivers in just-in-time mode to PSA Peugeot Citroën's Rennes facility.

The use of this electrostatic painting technology, as well as the design of the paintshop itself, allows Faurecia to reduce VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions to less than 50mgC/Nm3, well below the threshold of 75mgC/Nm3 set by the European standard.

This painting technology uses an electrostatic method concentrating the paint spray on the relevant area and reducing the amount of paint used by around 15%. The system used at the Bains sur Oust plant also incorporates a process that enables a 75% reduction in the amount of flush gas used.
