Invisible airbags and reinforced seats on the BMW 1-Series

Incorporating airbags into the instrument panel is a key safety feature, yet it should not detract from the car’s esthetics. The instrument panel in the BMW 1-Series is the product of an innovative solution based on the concept of an invisible airbag developed using laser-precut technology. What sets this airbag system apart is that it is not fixed to the vehicle’s support beam. The new design ensures the system is compatible with the relevant European and US standards.
Faurecia also designed and delivers the seats for the new BMW 1-Series Cabriolet with enhanced impact-resistance features. The reinforced headrests significantly reduce the risk of injury to those inside the vehicle in the event of impact from the rear. The invisible side airbags built into the back of the front seats inflate in the event of lateral collision up to head height and reduce the risk of injury to occupants’ pelvis, torso and head.
