Acoustic package module and its components: trunk compartment, passenger compartment, engine compartment
Acoustic
protection is a major contributor to vehicle comfort: a silent interior is
synonymous with a comfortable, enjoyable and safe drive. As a specialist in both
acoustics and materials, Faurecia is well-equipped to offer its customers
acoustic solutions while optimizing costs and reducing weight. The Group ranks
second in Europe and fourth worldwide in acoustic packages.
In its research centers in Mouzon, France and Sassenburg, Germany,
Faurecia has invested in some of the most powerful analysis and simulation tools in the
world. Its acoustic specialists have conceived the "acoustic synthesis method",
which reproduces the sound of a
vehicle interior with pinpoint accuracy. The acoustic package for a vehicle can
therefore be optimized in terms of insulation and absorption without the
automaker having to produce a real prototype to evaluate the acoustic
performance.
As well as supplying
acoustic packages, Faurecia now uses its expertise in these centers to offer
highly specialized acoustic services to its customers, and to study, develop
and test new concepts on their behalf.
A wide range of materials
Faurecia’s wide range of coverings and insulators are designed to
soundproof the vehicle’s three key areas: floor carpets and inner dash insulator for the
passenger compartment, parcel shelves, side
trim, and load floors for the trunk compartment, and engine hood
insulators and absorbers for the engine compartment.
Faurecia is constantly
expanding its range of materials in order to offer more options to the vehicle
designer.
The Group also develops
acoustic modules which can be fitted directly at the vehicle assembly stage,
such as a parcel shelf incorporating speakers, stop lights, the rear seat locking
system and seat belt retractors.
Balancing cost, weight and acoustic performance
The improvement of materials and functions is
a major innovation theme for Faurecia. In order to achieve the balance
required by the automaker between the three key factors of cost, weight
and acoustic performance, Faurecia applies its FACT concept (Faurecia
Acoustic Triangle Concept). One tangible result is the acoustic
lightweight concept, which offers an improved acoustic performance
at a reduced weight by combining insulation and absorption in four layers
of material.
