pioneering solutions such as the diesel
particulate filter.
Faurecia draws on the
Group’s extensive acoustics expertise to find new systems for reducing noise
for both vehicle occupants and pedestrians, while also limiting the weight of
the muffler.
Faurecia’s R&D efforts in the field of exhaust systems also focus on durability,
weight reduction, recycling and savings on raw materials, especially the
precious metals used in catalytic converters.
High-tech components for integrated exhaust systems
Faurecia develops and manufactures the main components of the exhaust system:
manifolds,
stamped or tubular, to improve engine performance catalytic
converters to reduce pollutant gases emitted by the exhaust system mufflers
which play a key role in acoustic comfort decoupling
elements which form the interface between the engine and the exhaust system.
The
Group’s researchers work constantly to meet automaker’s demands for lightweight,
cost-effective components, and to improve component performance in terms of

The Group pioneered the diesel
particulate filter (DPF) system, which has significantly improved
the environmental performance of diesel engines by filtering the particles
out of emissions.
Other innovations cover both the hot and cold ends of the exhaust system:
the ALES
lightweight concept uses an embossed steel sheet on the muffler shell
to reduce the weight and the turbo
manifold offers improved emission control and a significant reduction
in weight.
