The protection of car occupants and vulnerable road users (VRUs) such
as pedestrians and cyclists, is a major priority for Faurecia. The Group
has implemented a comprehensive procedure to manage product safety from
the development phase through to serial production.
Preventive safety and passive safety
Faurecia's R&D centers develop safety systems
known as Faurecia Care Systems (FCS) for each product line.
A transversal network within the Group coordinates
the management of safety products. The FCS address both preventive safety
(to avoid accidents) and passive safety (to protect occupants in the event
of an accident) by developing materials and integrated systems to dissipate
energy.
An integrated safety approach
The FCS adopt an integrated safety approach
which uses pre-accident information to optimize the protection of occupants
and VRUs. Significant resources are devoted to biomechanical research,
for example into accident analysis, impact injury mechanisms and human
body tolerances in dynamic loading.
Alongside its automaker customers and accident
analysis institutes, Faurecia is currently involved in a number of projects
for improving safety. These include, for example, building a set of digital
models of the human body, developing a VRU detection system, and pioneering
an integrated side crash protection system.
Specific innovations developed within Faurecia
to improve safety include anti-submarining systems, anti-whiplash systems,
the Syntes
cockpit structure, and front end systems designed with pedestrian
safety in mind. |
