As part of efforts to generate value for all stakeholders across our supply chain, we at Faurecia seek ways to innovate for sustainability for every stage of our products’ life cycle. This starts from the design, materials used, and manufacturing processes, and ends with their recycling, replacement, or repair, thus developing or strengthening the automotive industry’s circular economy.

French and EU waste reduction regulations encourage industries, like repairer shops in the automotive sector, to offer consumers remanufactured or refurbished parts. For over 10 years Faurecia Service, an entity of Faurecia Clean Mobility, has offered  remanufacturing services for our Diesel Particulate Filters to OEMs and fleets with the aim of extending the life of our products and ensuring optimal performance throughout their use.

"Leveraging Faurecia’s position as a Tier 1 supplier, we have been remanufacturing DPFs long before EU regulations came into force,” said Teddy Roussel, CBU Director of OES and Faurecia Service at Faurecia. “Today, greater environmental consciousness has acted as an accelerator in demand for remanufactured parts. For Faurecia, developing this business model generates value and opportunities for actors across our supply chain, while promoting sustainability.”

When it comes to exhaust systems, cleaning and repairs services restore filtration capacity, ensuring these continue to comply with emissions regulations and extending their shelf life. Diesel particulate filters (DPF) may become clogged over time, especially those fitted in vehicles used in urban areas: while the DPF is designed to function at its top level for around 150,000 km, urban drivers might find that their vehicle’s DPF is clogged after only 75,000km.

Our team in Messei, Normandy has offered refurbishing services for DPFs to OEMs for over 10 years– processing approximately 50,000 parts a year. The service is currently available to light and light commercial vehicles. Cleaning and repairing the DPF, which can be done at least twice on each filter, can triple its life cycle. Our refurbishing services, as well as lowering the environmental impact of our products, are a cost-friendly option: end customers can save up to 50% with a remanufactured DPF compared to a new part.

Our aftersales services support our car dealer and fleet partners in complying with waste regulations, and give their customers alternatives to new parts replacement that are cost-efficient and more environmentally sound. DPFs functioning at their optimal level is of course of importance to air quality, a vital challenge for urban areas. The business advantages of developing circular economies in the automotive sector are clear for every actor, with opportunities to enhance product offers and build or strengthen customer relationships across the supply chain.
